Dr. Felix Zandman was the inspirational leader of the business that became Vishay Precision Group, Inc. He began his professional
life as a professor at the Ecole de l’Aire, the French Academy of Aeronautics, and his theoretical work added a new boundary condition
to existing equations to show that the resulting strain equation for a material becomes identical to the applied stress equation. This deep
mathematical understanding of stress/strain principles was the foundation that he later utilized to create practical solutions to real-world
applications.
In 1956, Dr. Zandman moved to the United States and began applying his knowledge in industry. He developed PhotoStress® measurement
instruments which were the tangible result of his theoretical body of work, and which brought him to the measuring systems division of the
Budd Company in Philadelphia as Director of Research. In this historic interview from that era, he explains his invention of PhotoStress and
its applications.
