Line-Up Features New Seminar on Strain-Gage-Based Transducers — Design, Assembly, and Refinement
MALVERN, Pa. Dec. 07, 2015 — Micro-Measurements®, a Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (VPG) brand, today announced its U.S. training session schedule for the first half of 2016. Held at VPG’s Micro-Measurements facilities in Raleigh, North Carolina, and at other locations across the U.S., the four different workshops, short courses, and technical seminars offered by the company are designed to train customers in the proper use of strain measurement techniques.
The Micro-Measurements’ programs provide excellent hands-on training for those who use, plan, supervise, or instruct others in stress analysis techniques. Short courses include visual aids and demonstrations to allow for wide coverage of the subject with added depth in key areas.
Sessions being conducted in the first half of 2016 include the Hands-On Workshop Covering Strain Gage Fundamentals; Advanced Hands-On Workshop Covering Strain Gage Technology; Comprehensive Program Covering Strain Measuring Systems; and Seminar on Strain-Gage-Based Transducers — Design, Assembly, and Refinement, which is being offered for the first time in the U.S. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded for the successful completion of each stress analysis training course.

In the Hands-On Workshop Covering Strain Gage Fundamentals, each participant completes three gage installations using materials selected for suitability in a majority of test environments. The workshop is intended to develop proficiency in strain gage selection and installation.
In addition to addressing the strain gage installation topics covered in the Hands-On Workshop Covering Strain Gage Fundamentals, the Advanced Hands-On Workshop Covering Strain Gage Technology includes a review of instrumentation. Workshop participants will make several complete strain gage installations, including electrical connections, check-out, and environmental protection, and use appropriate readout instrumentation to verify results of their own installations.
The Comprehensive Program Covering Strain Measuring Systems reviews stress analysis principles and methods of locating stress concentrations in a complex strain field using modern optical techniques. The short course covers performance characteristics of the strain gage and selection criteria, and it also includes several laboratory projects in which strain gages are bonded, electrical connections completed, environmental protection applied, and installation integrity verified. All attendees will receive at no charge a new pocket-sized, USB-powered data acquisition device for use with strain gages — a $150 value — including user-friendly application software to control the unit using a Microsoft® Windows®-based PC.
In the all-new Seminar on Strain-Gage-Based Transducers — Design, Assembly, and Refinement, attendees will construct and test a complete transducer using techniques and materials developed specifically for transducer manufacturing, including wiring, protective coatings, and calibration equipment. Emphasis is placed on the reduction of common production-line failures such as gage-bonding rejects, by thoroughly understanding the cause-and-effect relationships for these failures.
